Questions to Ask When Touring an Independent Senior Living Community

, Questions to Ask When Touring an Independent Senior Living Community

Choosing the right senior living community can be a daunting task. It is an important decision that will significantly impact the quality of life in your golden years. To ensure a comprehensive evaluation when touring independent senior living communities, here are some essential questions you should consider:

What amenities are available?

Knowing what is available, from clubhouses and fitness facilities to social activities and personal care, will help determine if the community fits your lifestyle and preferences.

What are the housing options?

Understanding the variety of accommodation options is crucial. While some communities offer apartment style living, Trails West is a privately-owned, gated community where our residents own their own homes. For information about available homes or build-to-suite lots, call us today or visit Good Times Homes, our community’s custom-home builder.

What activities and events are offered?

Social engagement and recreational activities are vital to life at any age. Inquire about their activity calendar, special events, and opportunities for socialization.

What safety and security measures are in place?

Your peace of mind is of utmost importance. Inquire about security systems, emergency call systems, and the staff’s training in emergency procedures.

Can you speak with current residents?

The best way to get a feel for the community is to talk with the people who call it home. Ask if it would be possible to chat with a current resident. Trails West boasts a vibrant community of residents that keep in touch in person, as well as on our resident Facebook group.

What other services are offered?

When considering your move to a senior community, it’s important to take into account the level of care you may require. While Trails West offers a variety of amenities and a close knit community of residents who take pride in caring for one another, we are not an assisted living community. Some of our residents do hire home care on a per-resident basis, but if you or your loved one are looking for a community with on-site assistance, please note that this is something not offered “in-house” at our community. Our management does however do our best to being certain elements of healthcare closer to home, hosting vaccine vehicles and similar services periodically.
